RSA – Open Exhibition 2012
THREE EDINBURGH ARTISTS CONTEND FOR TOP SELLER STATUS
at RSA Open exhibition on The Mound
• Kittie Jones
• Peter Standen
• Keith A Thompson
Three Edinburgh-based artists are in competition for bestseller status at the Royal Scottish Academy’s annual open submission exhibition. Kittie Jones, Peter Standen and Keith Thompson have one print each in the exhibition, all of which are currently tied in sales numbers.
Kittie’s print is titled ‘Skylark’ and is a limited edition screenprint of the famously vocal bird. Fittingly, the print has been coloured in loud, bright colours, showing the bird at home in its natural habitat – on the ground among tall grasslands. It is priced £175 for an unframed copy and is taken from an edition of 12.
Peter’s print is titled ‘Scientific Improbability’ and is a limited edition coloured etching of Edinburgh’s famous Princes Street and bridges, seen from the west end of Edinburgh. Arthur’s Seat has exploded and lava has taken over Prince’s Street Gardens! It is priced £190 for an unframed copy and is taken from an edition of 75.
Keith’s print is titled ‘Buses’ and is also a limited edition coloured etching. It is a simple, playful work showing 21 buses in blue, red, green and yellow – a perfect image for inhabitants of a city proud of its award-winning bus service, especially at a time when trams are looming! It is priced £50 for an unframed copy and is taken from an edition of 30.
Andrew Goring, Sales Officer at the RSA commented: “It’s great to see the response these terrific prints are generating from visitors to the exhibition. They are all fantastic works of art, handmade by very talented local artists, a fact which is testament to the depth of creative talent in Edinburgh. I know all three artists and they are all very hard-working, genuine people who deserve to be supported by the art-buying public and perhaps even those who haven’t started a collection yet, because any of these would make a very good first purchase!”
The exhibition is free admission and is open until 31st January – including New Year ’s Day. RSA Lower Galleries, The Mound.
